The Beauty Lover Tag

It's been such a long time since I've done a tag post! This particular tag is 10 questions for the beauty lover, aka right up my alley. These are always such fun posts to write, and a nice way to take a break from all the makeup reviews and get to know each other better. I was tagged by the lovely Steffanie over at Brighter, Darling (you can check out her answers here), who apparently is totally on the same beauty brain wave as I am. So without me rambling on any further, let's get into the questions!

If you could have anyone in the world do your makeup, who would it be?
Of course, they need to start out with a tough one! I can think of like 10 different MUAs I'd die to meet and have do my makeup. But for now I'm going to go with Marlena from Makeup Geek. She's got such a wonderful, bubbly personality, and that girl can do some crazy things with eye makeup. I'd love for her to create one of her perfectly blended, colorful looks for me!

What's your top makeup tip?
Don't be afraid to experiment. If you love the look of a cat eye, sit down in front of a mirror one day and try to create one. Put on some red lipstick. Try false lashes just for the heck of it. Makeup shouldn't have to be intimidating. At the end of the day it all washes off, so don't take it too seriously. You never know what you might end up loving, or have a particular knack for until you start playing around.

What one makeup item could you not live without?
Hands down, mascara. Looking at my stash, you'd probably think I'd say lipstick or eyeshadow because I have a gagillion of each, but truthfully I only feel naked without my mascara. Even if I'm totally bare faced, a few coats really make my eyes pop and give me a more polished appearance.

What one skincare item could you not live without?
A good cleanser. As someone with oily skin, there is nothing more uncomfortable than feeling greasy and grimy at the end of the day, so washing my face is definitely the most enjoyable part of my bedtime routine. If someone was to take away my entire skincare stash, excepting my Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish, I'd probably be okay. It's essentially like a lazy man's facial. It removes makeup, cleanses, exfoliates, and hydrates your skin in one step.

What are you worst at when it comes to applying makeup?
Ugh. Eyebrows. It's something I'm working on, but I know it's definitely my weak spot. Especially when I look at pictures from Instagram and other blogs. People have the most perfectly sculpted, beautiful eyebrows, while mine are always looking wonky and sort of uneven. One of these days I'm going to step up my game.

What's your biggest pet peeve when it comes to beauty?
I can completely appreciate makeup as an art form, and understand that there are a wide variety of techniques that MUAs use for film and print media. But when an artistry trend blows up in the beauty community at large, it makes me super annoyed. You do not need to stobe, contour, color correct, and bake your face every single day. Yes, it's totally fun to learn and experiment, but don't feel like you need to go out and drop hundreds of dollars on products because they're trendy. You do you, people! Don't give in to the hype.

What's your favorite makeup era?
I've always been a sucker for the classic red lip and winged liner look of the 40s and 50s. To me it's one of those sexy, timeless pairings that everyone woman needs to rock once in a while. On the daily, though, I think I channel more of a glowy, 70s era vibe. I don't want to totally look like a disco ball, but I do love me a glittery eyeshadow.

What's your guilty pleasure product?
Two words: Eyeshadow. Palettes. In truth, a normal person needs MAYBE two in their collection. One of neutral shades, and another with some fun pops of color. Anything beyond that is totally unnecessary, and yet I just want to own them all. ALL THE PALLETES ARE BELONG TO ME.

What's your underdog product?
Hmmm...the Laura Mercier Eye Art Artist's Palette. Too Faced and Urban Decay get all the hype when it comes to eyeshadow palettes, but this one is probably my all-time favorite. The shadows are SO pigmented and blendable and just flippin' gorgeous. I absolutely love it and think it deserves way more hype than it gets. I've got a full review here if you'd like to see swatches.

What was your favorite makeup product of 2015?
I wrote an entire blog post dedicated to this exact topic, so it's REALLY difficult to narrow it down to a single one. But since you're asking so nicely, I'm going to go with the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara. Even though it's not the most exciting product, I used that bad boy in what felt like every single tutorial and makeup look I posted last year. It's just so darn good! And it's one of the only products from 2015 I used up and repurchased, which is saying something.

I hope you guys enjoyed my little beauty related thoughts. Now it's my turn to spread the love! I tag Sammi the Beauty Buff, The Cornfed Princess, and Sharon Beauty Prime. But of course, anyone who wants to share their beauty love should create their own tag post too! Tweet me the link @blushingbirdie or tag me on Facebook so I can check them out.
