The 8 Polishes You Need to Kick Off Autumn

Friends, it's officially that time again. Get ready to bust out your boots, your scarves, and your pumpkin spiced everything. Even though I'm a summer baby through and through, fall beauty and fashion is by far my favorite to indulge in. Give me the plaid button downs, the big blanket scarves, the soft, chunky sweaters. Give me matte lips, gold shadows, and vampy nail polishes. I want all of it, and I want it on my body right now.

In the spirit of all things autumn, I thought it would be fun to dive through my nail polish collection and pull out a few of the shades I'm most excited to return to my everyday rotation. It's time to retire those pinks and corals and get a little more moody in manicure country. From sultry oxbloods, to edgy navys I'm all about going extra dark and extra chic when the leaves start to turn.

I'm not going to lie, it was surprisingly difficult trying to narrow down my favorites to just these few. I'm a bit of a nail polish junkie and my collection is...excessive, to say the least. Unfortunately some of my most coveted shades are from limited edition collections, and I'm not going to be that mean friend taunting you with things you can't run out and buy for yourself (I'm looking at you Casino Royale). Fortunately I've managed to find 8 beautiful fall-inspired shades that you can find online and in stores right now.

Nude polishes are truly a year-round mani staple. For the fall, though, I like to trade in my light beiges and camels for something with a little bit more richness and intensity. One of my favorites is the Zoya Nail Polish in Normani ($10), which is a deep nude cream with a purple undertone. Also, unlike a lot of lighter nudes, this one has a ton of pigmentation, and will be totally opaque with two coats.

Guys, vampy oxblood shades are my JAM. My current obsession? The Smith & Cult Nailed Lacquer in Dark Like Me ($18). This polish is as beautiful on your nails as it is in the bottle. Yes, these polishes are a bit of an investment, but they also double as an art piece for your vanity.

This next one is a cult favorite of the beauty blogger world. We all can't help but go bananas for Essie's After School Boy Blazer ($9), which is the perfect, almost-but-not-quite-black shade of navy blue. If true black feels a little to rocker-chic for you, I dare you to give this polish a try. It's a little less harsh while still channeling that edgy vibe.

Whether you're rocking it on your lips or on your nails, red never really goes out of style. A true classic cherry shade, JinSoon Nail Polish in Coquette ($18) is a staple in my collection. This particular polish has less of a white base, which means that it has that beautiful, glossy, gel-like finish to it. Layer it up with two coats to get it nice and opaque.

Now, its obvious that I'm partial to deep, dark, intense hues, but sometimes a girl wants to lighten things up a bit. Usually I'd associate lilac with spring's pastel palette, but the grey undertone in Trust Fund Beauty's Nail Polish in Elegantly Wasted ($12) gives it a much more autumnal vibe to me. Can't you just picture your freshly manicured hands wrapped around a Salted Caramel Latte right now?

Nothing says "fall" to me like a beautiful plum shade. A long time favorite of mine is LAQA & Co Nail Polish in Bells & Whistles ($13), which is one of those dark horse beauty products that deserves way more attention than it gets. The formula on these polishes is insanely smooth and chip resistant, and the brush is really easy to work with! I'm not sure where you can find LAQA & Co in person, but you can order this polish online from the Birchbox Shop (no need to be a subscriber!).

Even though I'm also partial to creme polishes (if you haven't noticed already) sometimes a girl just wants to get her sparkle on. OPI Nail Lacquer in Brisbane Bronze ($9.99) is a GORGEOUS option. It looks like shimmering, liquid copper on your nails. It's essentially fall perfection in a bottle.

And of course, I can't do a nail roundup without mentioning at least one Julep polish! Julep Nail Lacquer in DeAnn ($14) is a perfect berry-pink hue to round up the bunch. Julep's polishes are so incredibly easy to work with (especially the creme formulas) and wear like a dream. If you haven't tried one out, they're highly worth investing in!

Hopefully you've found a little inspiration for your next mani! I'd love to hear what polishes you're most excited to break back out of your stash! Share with me in the comments below.
