NYX Prismatic Shadow Review

Eyeshadow. It's the one product that I can never seem to get enough of. Really though. The colors, the textures, all of the possibilities for creating beautiful makeup looks. What's not to love? Unfortunately, finding quality powder shadows at a reasonable price is not always an easy task. Sure, there are countless amazing palettes on the shelves at Sephora, but sometimes a girl needs to stick to a budget. Needless to say, when I discover a truly fantastic eyeshadow at the drugstore I want to shout from the rooftops

If you haven't already guessed where I'm going with all of this, today's review is on a product that I cannot say enough good things about. The pigmentation is crazy, the finish is amazing, the texture is creamy and buttery soft. And it is only $6.

SIX DOLLARS PEOPLE!

So what is this miraculous pot of metallic wonderment? None other than the NYX Prismatic Shadow.

I first discovered this line last year in the summertime, when I encountered the insanely gorgeous, duochromatic Golden Peach shade whilst doing some birthday shopping. I saw it on the shelf and basically thought to myself, "GET ON MY EYES RIGHT NOW". Of course, sometimes things look amazing in the pan, but are totally underwhelming on the eyes (especially with the often lackluster formulas of many drugstore shadows). Fortunately, though, this shadow did not disappoint. While it's technically a powder, the texture feels a lot more like a creamy pressed pigment. There's very minimal fallout, and it brings the most beautiful metallic shine. I rocked this look a lot over the warmer months, and in the fall decided that I needed to expand my collection.

The NYX Prismatic Shadows come in 12 fierce shades and are perfect for adding a pop of color or some metallic shine to your look. I now own five of them: Girl Talk (a pearlescent pink), Golden Peach (a pink/gold duochrome), Fireball (a metallic burnt orange), Punk Heart (a deep amethyst purple), and Jaded (a deep forest green), swatched above in that order above. I was so pleasantly surprised to see that the other shades available were equally pigmented and beautiful. The darker shades especially pack a serious punch. Because the formula is so soft and creamy, these shadows are also incredibly easy to work with, and can be diffused out in the crease, or packed on for more intense color. The swatches above are also without any kind of primer, and will be quite long wearing even without a base. However, if you want to really make these shadows pop, using a primer or a cream shadow underneath will also help to make them look even more brilliant and metallic.

The packaging on these little singles is really quite cute. I love the bow detailing and the silver metal lids. However, if you're someone who owns a Z-Palette, you can also purchase just the pans for a dollar less if that is more convenient.

These shadows are truly some of the best I've encountered in the aisles of the drugstore for quite some time. If you're someone who prefers a more neutral look the shades Girl Talk, Bedroom Eyes, and Liquid Gold would be great options for you to try. However, if you're looking for a serious pop of fun color, their are shades like Mermaid, Punk Heart, and Blue Jeans to make your heart sing.
