Oooh snap, it's FINALLY time for a throwdown! Both of my monthly beauty subscriptions came while I was in LA for Generation Beauty, but I'm home and ready to unbox (unbag?) them both for you all. If you're new around these parts, Subscription Showdown is a series I film over on my YouTube channel where I compare my Ipsy Glambag and Sephora Play box. Both subscriptions only cost $10 a month and contain 5 deluxe-sized samples that are tailored to your unique beauty profile. Over the years I've discovered so many amazing products through both of these services, so its hard to pick an overall favorite. Instead, I just take things month by month to let you know which one is my personal victor. Curious to see which of these subs stole my heart this month? Just keep on reading!
Maybe it's just me, but I definitely feel like both Ipsy and Sephora play have been upping their game over the last six months. Ipsy entirely revamped their sample review process, making the surveys much simpler and faster to fill out, and also incorporating your feedback when they select products for future bags. The great thing about this is that if you say you love a brand, you'll be more likely to continue to receive new products to try from said brand. On the downside, that sometimes means you'll be less likely to get products from brands you've never heard of, which is some of the fun of subscription boxes for me.
Sephora Play has also branched out and started to customize their boxes. In previous months all subscribers got the exact same products in the exact same shades. While you totally avoid FOMO, its also much more difficult to curate a single box that will make everyone happy. Now, Sephora Play utilizes the information in your Beauty Insider profile to tailor your box to your unique skin and hair needs. The overall box variations are still way more limited than what you see with Ipsy, but they're definitely taking a step in the right direction!

Overall I was really quite happy with both of these bags. I think Ipsy just suffered a bit from giving me things I've tried elsewhere. And seeing as both of my subs came so late this month, I barely have to wait before the February sneak peeks start pouring in!
